Complaints, Confusion, and Cheese.
Many people have addressed the anomaly of "fair-weather friends," people who I have experienced and get thoroughly annoyed at. But I can deal with that. The people who confuse and bother me the most are, in my own words, the foul-weather friends. I suppose you could classify them as a sub-category of fair-weather friends, but for the most part their characteristics are uniquely their own. Many friendships have problems with communication--that is just people and their failings. However, I fail to understand why, when these friends have a crisis, it is the absolute end of heaven, earth, and everything else, but when I have a similar crisis it is nothing. I also cannot understand why these friends basically ignore me when everything is good in life, but when they are having problems I am the only friend in the world. It's not that I mind helping people through hard times--I just mind helping people through hard times repeatedly, and being ignored repeatedly. That is why I've dubbed them foul-weather friends. In times of trouble they're there, but in good times they mysteriously disappear. Oh, their good times. Not mine. Is it too much to ask for a little consistency in friendships?
