Pointe feet.
I love my feet. They are, without doubt, my favorite part of me. They're pretty and useful and strong and look great no matter what I do to them. You may find it ironic that I dance en pointe. Pointe is probably the worst form of dance for your feet. I know several girls whose feet simply bleed whenever they dance en pointe, and experience ridiculous levels of pain. Why, then, do we do it? Well, because it looks good. Is this a huge flaw in dance philosophy? Yes, at my studio. I dance en pointe because I like it. I don't have alot of pain, and my feet have never been hurt by it. In fact, I rather enjoy the slight pain in my toe area. It is, to me, strength. The more I dance en pointe, the less I like it, but the less it hurts. I realize this is weird. I do not intend to dance en pointe next year, but I'm very very glad I did this year. It's been a new experience for me, and it's been good for me. Pointe class requires alot more discipline and strength, and I don't regret going en pointe this year. The big issue is money. Pointe shoes cost alot, and then you have to buy ribbons, then you have to buy toe pads, then you have to sew them together. It's really a shame to spend more than sixty dollars on shoes that you use once or twice a week and last a year. Which brings me, in a very roundabout way, to my dilemma. For my performance this spring I've been cast as a girrafe, because I'm one of the tallest girls in my school and will be dancing en pointe. I need new pointe shoes for the performance, which makes sense, but the senseless thing is that we have to dye our brand new, shiny, beautiful pointe shoes. I'm hesitant to buy a second pair of the nice shoes I have to use for only three nights of dancing. Honestly, I'm going to have to use them next year in class to justify the cost. My dance teacher is just going to have to deal with it, because I'm not loaded. In fact, I'm rather broke. Either that or I'm stingy. But I'd rather be stingy and have some emergency money than not stingy and end up broke for reals. So that's what I think about pointe shoes. Laters.
