"Boobs are meant to be puffed up and SEEN! With... GLITTER!"

Wow. I realized today how immensely long it has been since I blogged. I suppose I could make excuses and say that summer led no thoughts into my head and that I've been busy, but I won't. Instead I'd like to talk to you about something that's been on my mind lately--People putting their bodies on display. The topic first surfaced in my mind on the bus the other day. It was not a warm day, but a college aged girl, probably just graduated last June, was sitting on the bus wearing extremely short shorts with her legs crossed in a most provocative manner. This girl made me realize how truly stupid we as women can be about our sexuality. Obviously, this young, pretty female was out looking for young, hot guys. What she did not think of, unfortunately, is that when you turn your body into an eye magnet, everyone is going to look, regardless of age, background, or looks. So when an older man, not so reputable looking boarded the bus and looked at the young woman's legs quite appreciatively, the sheer audacity of her outraged look astounded me. A girl cannot be selective about who she displays her body to. If it's on display, everyone is going to look at it, and the image is going to stay in the mens' minds. This episode struck me as unfortunately typical. In several of the youth groups I have recently attended, the girl see fit to put their boobs on display. The disrespect entailed by this is mind-boggling. Disrespect for their brothers in Christ, most of whom are probably trying to stay chaste. Disrespect for the church leaders, because they often request that people not dress to display. Finally, disrespect for God and His house, which is supposed to be a place of worship, not a temple for idols, and, let's face it, sex is our country's idol. If women wish to display themselves as sex objects that's their business, but keep it out of church. As disturbing as it is for girls to present themselves that way, it's almost understandable when you look at the way adults behave, even in church. Our nation is going to the dogs, and this is one of the many reasons. (The quote in the title is from my writing prof last year.)
