Absolutely absurd.

There are many odd and peculiar things in life, and I make it my business to notice them. Today's agenda: Ridiculous. Not the concept, the word. The fact of the word is rather ridiculous in itself. Although ridiculous is spelled relatively phonetically for English, only an approximate 25% of the population knows how to spell it properly. The word is so useful in so many situations that it's a real shame, even a ridiculous shame, that people can't spell it well. The usefulness of a word with the ridiculousness of ridiculous is nigh unfathomable, but still totally spellable. I've seen variations of ridiculous ranging from scrambling the vowels to adding consonants. If I ever understand why people cannot take the three seconds it does to learn to spell a word, I shall write a book about it and language will be saved. It is (and I beg your pardon for this) ridiculous how many people are simply content to mangle words right and left, systematically degrading language to the point of uselessness. If people could take the time to learn how to spell a difficult word such as ridiculous, which incidentally isn't that difficult to spell at all, then they would learn valuable patience and study skills, the lack of which in our society is shocking. Ridiculous, even.
